Covid-19 has changed everything, hasn’t it? Many of us are spending the majority of our time in our homes and gardens, which isn’t so different from usual at this time of year. But things feel different–we have a different sense of perspective, a deeper gratitude for the land we live on, a profound awareness of the scale of things. Certainly, we are all reflecting on what’s really important to us. With that in mind, we wanted to give you an update on developments at Cortes Community Housing, and to ask you a little (very little!) favour.
As the effects of the current pandemic are felt across the world, agencies that grant funds to nonprofits are being strained. Economic upheaval is impacting funding levels as immediate public health initiatives are being prioritized. The Housing Committee is already feeling the effects, as we haven’t been awarded some grants that we hoped to win this year.
The strength of this community, and our love for one another, has always been front and centre for this housing initiative. So, as we continue to apply for large grants, work with current funders, and move forward with our projects at the Seniors Village and Rainbow Ridge, we’ve decided to try something new. Something really small.
Will you give $3 for housing right now?
We’re asking Islanders to consider donating small amounts to help us meet our goal of building new affordable housing on Cortes.
During the month of June, each donation of $3 or more through CanadaHelps enters us into a draw to win $20,000 from the Great Canadian Giving Challenge.
