Dear Friends & Neighbours,

If you agree that having more affordable housing options for Cortes residents is a good idea, then please write your reasons in a personal letter of support.  Just a few lines or a simple paragraph from many islanders like you — will help to convince the decision makers at the Strathcona Regional District (SRD).

Deadline for Your Letter of Support to arrive at SRD:  OCT 14 (Wednesday), by 4:30PM see details below.

The Cortes Island Seniors Society (CISS) has applied to rezone 6 acres on the Rainbow Ridge property adjacent to the existing Seniors Village.  The vision is to build 20 homes + 2 flex units of new non-profit rental housing for island residents with low-to-moderate incomes.  Creating homes for singles, couples, seniors and families of all ages.  This also requires a minor OCP amendment to officially designate this specific site as Community Service Two (CS-2).

Please include the following in your e-mail or letter:

Reference: Rezoning Rainbow Ridge

SRD Bylaws: 379 + 380 for Cortes Island

You can e-mail via: John Neill SRD Planner planning@srd.ca

You can post via: SRD Planning Dept c/o #301 – 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, BC, V9W 7Z8

Points you may wish to include in your letter of support:  island shortage of year-round affordable housing, over 100 people on the Rainbow Ridge waiting list for stable rental homes, creating local jobs, using local building materials, provide more non-profit downsizing options, retaining more seniors and more young working families on Cortes, proximity to Health Centre & School, walking distance to shops & services in Mansons Landing, public trails, community garden, and other reasons why you or friends and family might choose to live there in the future.

For more background information about this rezoning application you can read the SRD staff report, which includes site & unit plans for the Rainbow Ridge housing project by following this link:
